Comprising professional vocal performers and coaches from all around the world, The Vocal Studio specialises in personalised vocal coaching to help our students Find Their Inner Voice.

We have been around since October 2009, conveniently just off Orchard Road. Our coaches are active performers of the local & international music scene. We are constantly evolving our curriculum with the latest knowledge.

Hanna Ma

About

Hanna has 14 years of teaching experience and specializes in Broadway musical as well as pop and Korean music. She is a professional music therapist with Master’s Degree in Music Therapy and B.A. in psychology and Education. With thorough understanding in physical, cognitive, social and emotional aspects of music and voice, she has built holistic and effective vocal training approach as well as therapeutic use of music.

Experience

Since young, Hanna has been in Show Choir as a performer and piano accompanist, conductor for over 12 years in Korea and U.S. As a vocal coach, Hanna has taught individual students, directed theater musical for young students and adults. Hanna’s clinical and research experience as a music therapist expands from education, counselling, and medical areas in Korea, U.A.E, and Singapore.

Approach

Hanna is the founder/ trainer of Holistic Vocal Coaching. She holds a deep knowledge and intuition on singers’ voice in aspects of anatomy, physiology, psychology, and music itself. She guides students to navigate various styles and discover their own way of singing in creative ways. Her purpose as a vocal coach and music therapist is in helping people connect with their inner self and let it shine through music and singing.

About

Hydir Idris has 7 years of teaching experience ranging from pre-school, primary, secondary and personalised coaching one to one level. He is a professional Singaporean singer-songwriter and certified arts educator by National Institution of Education.

As a contemporary voice specialist, Hydir holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music, majoring in contemporary modern/pop-vocals, music business and music production with 15 years of vocal experience, releasing songs commercially as independent and record labels from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Experience

At an early age, Hydir was exposed to secular and non-secular music. During his time at music college, Hydir was coached mentored in pop-vocal performance, music business and production by Singapore Idol vocal coach, Babes Conde and mentored in music production and music business by Emmy Award Nominee music composer and producer, Dr. Joseph Curiale.

Ever since Hydir’s professional solo career kickstarted at the age of 17 through reality TV singing competitions such as Anugerah 2009 and The Final 1 SG, he has worked with prominent producers, composers and record labels from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, performed for numerous public and corporate shows at the Esplanade Theatres and Mediacorp Suria.

Approach

Hydir is equipped with the holistic vocal coaching perspective as well as the SLS principles and methodology. With a fundamental understanding in vocal anatomy and pedagogy for contemporary voice technique accompanied with naturally expressive singing voice, Hydir’s purpose as a vocal coach is to collaborate with his students and provide them a safe space to train and find their unique singing abilities through personalised practice.

Fathin Amira

 
 

Senior Vocal Coach

About

Not one to be resting on her laurels, Fathin Amira, a songwriter, multilingual singer, recording artiste and aspiring superstar, has been constantly driven to pit herself against the best since her first debut public performance at age 5. Throughout her elementary and high school years, she was trained under her school’s choir group. Graduating from School of Music & The Arts (SOMA SG) Diploma in Songwriting & Music Production, she learnt another skill of song composition and studio work. Fathin’s music style is heavily influenced by Pop R&B and Soul music. She also has released 3 Pop Originals (Sebenarnya, Mungkin Ini Cinta & Sujud) over the past few years.

Experience

Fathin has competed in several competitions – Singapore Idol S3, The Final 1 SG, Asia’s Got Talent S1, I Love OPM (ABS-CBN) and performed for numerous corporate events. She is also a wedding vocalist for Orkes Budi for 10 years, along side with her father Mr Zubir, the music director of the band. Through the years of performing, she was influenced by Traditional Pop Asli, Keroncong music and other genres as well (Pop Jazz, Ballad, Funk, Swing, Bossa). Her biggest achievement was the remake of the National Anthem “Majulah Singapura” in the year 2020.

Approach

As a coach, she strives to bring the best out of her students, and polish their singing abilities. She also emphasizes on the emotional aspect of vocal singing, to create different interpretations. Singing is an antidote for her, and she hopes to heal people through singing.

Harsha Channa

About

Harsha is a highly intuitive singer and vocal coach with a background in Hindustani classical music, pop-vocal technique training and vast performance experience with live bands for both live and television audiences. As a native Hindi speaker, she picked up conversational Tamil and made it into the TOP 11 of Singapore’s Vasantham Star 2023. 

Experience

A theatre student with a Hindustani Classical background, she combines this experience with Western vocal techniques to train individuals on the basis of their anatomy and needs, allowing students to realise their voices to their fullest potential.

Approach

Harsha has first-hand experience of any turbulences a singer may face on and off-stage, and helps students tackle their limitations in order to effortlessly free their inner voices.

Language and genre are no barriers for her holistic approaches to reach effortless singing. Past students have opted to learn songs in Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese and Punjabi.

SRI ALYSSA

Alyssa is a sweet soul who really is attentive to the voice and stories of students.

About

Alyssa is a singer-songwriter who holds a Diploma in Popular Music Performance from LASALLE College of the Arts. She has composed, arranged, and produced her own songs since the age of 12, and has an extensive performing experience in Singapore, both as a soloist and alongside her musician parents. Alyssa specialises in teaching Pop, Ballad, R&B, Soul, and Alternative/Pop Rock.

Experience

Alyssa has performed for various functions and events for organisations like Yayasan Mendaki, Cashew Zone, Passion Arts, and Jamiyah’s Children Home, as well as several other public events and weddings. She has also performed at Singapore’s National Museum for “Remembering LEE KUAN YEW” for the commemoration of Singapore’s founding father’s one year of passing.

Approach

With her experience in performing, Alyssa hopes to provide her students with a fun and safe space to discover their own unique voice tone and style, and the freedom to channel and express their emotions vocally.

Phyllis Soh

About

Phyllis is a diploma graduate from Lasalle College of the Arts specializing in Pop Vocals. Her musical journey began as a student at The Vocal Studio in 2019, where she us under the tutelage of Coach Hann. Returning as a new Coach, She is eager as ever to grow as a musician and an instructor.

Experience

Being a strong believer in the positive impact of music, Phyllis has performed for the elderly at HCA Hospice care as well as charities such as Ambulance Wish Singapore.

Approach

Phyllis believes that it is important to embrace one’s unique voice as it opens up a journey of self exploration and self expression. Her aim is to establish a nurturing environment where her students can delve into all facets of singing - including the mental, anatomical, and emotional aspects - in order to discover what suits each individual best.

About

Hui Ting aspires to explore her voice and emotions through a variety of musical styles, including Pop, Rock, and Ballads. During her secondary school years, she had the opportunity to perform with Roundbox, a program by the Singapore Children’s Society. Since then, she has completed her Music Diploma at LASALLE College of the Arts and continues to work towards honing her musical skills.

Experience

She has performed at various events in collaboration with the Singapore Children's Society over a span of four years, including the Lion Befrienders Project, fundraising events, CCA fairs, the Annual Free Market, OCBC Campus 2016, the Children's Charities Association 2015, and the National Day Observance Ceremony at the Istana in 2014.

Approach

Hui Ting hopes to empower her students to embrace the array of emotions within themselves and express them through their voices. She aims to create a safe space where her students can explore and hone their voices across different musical styles.
