About
From humble beginnings, Hydir Idris (artist profile) is an independent Singaporean singer-songwriter and producer whose talent was first recognised through his Primary School and Secondary School CCA, Dikir Barat and went to pursue competitions on national television such as Anugerah 2009 and The Final 1 SG, where he began performing publicly at the young age of 17.
He completed both secular and non-secular education and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Music from LASALLE College of the Arts, specialising in Contemporary/Pop Vocal Performance. He trained under Singapore Idol Vocal Coach Babes Conde and was mentored in Music Business, Music Production and PopBand Performance Ensemble by acclaimed Emmy-nominated American composer, producer and educator, Dr. Joseph Curiale.
With over a decade of experience as an independent artist, Hydir has collaborated with renowned regional composers and producers, releasing his music through notable labels across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Experience
Hydir has had prior teaching experience as an NIE Certified arts educator and registered Arts and Music Instructor, teaching music and movement, speech and drama at preschool level with Busy Bees Asia, Learning Horizon, Little Musicians and Edublitz Pte Ltd at Primary and Secondary level.
With 16 years in the music industry and 5 years as a vocal coach at TVS, Hydir offers a grounded blend of performance, recording and coaching. As a Singaporean Singer-songwriter, his music has been featured on radio and TV since he was 17 and he has portfolio of performances from Grassroots community events to Esplanade Theatres and Mediacorp Suria.
Regionally, he has worked with composers and producers from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, receiving recognition such as a nomination for Most Popular Song Singapore at Anugerah Planet Muzik and was awarded the Track #1 feature on LASALLE’s official compilation CD under ‘Pop’ category.
Beyond his artist and teaching career, Hydir also contributed as a Vocal Producer for Mediacorp’s Kelab Juara Mic Junior, guiding young singers for successful televised performances for 2 seasons.
Approach
Hydir believes that singing is a personal journey where technique and emotion work hand in hand. He takes time to understand each student’s background and guides their growth with a balance of structure and intuition.
His coaching is rooted in healthy vocal habits — beginning with speech-based foundations, SOVT routines and phases that help students reduce strain, build coordination, strengthen mix and expand range over time and practice. At the same time, he encourages artistic expression, musicality and emotional connection that is meaningful to the individual.
Above all, Hydir aims to help every student sing with ease, confidence and a deeper trust in their own voice.
