What do the vocal coaches do to prepare for your lessons? π€
We would love for all our studentsβ to have a significant breakthrough in their learning.
βI think we need to reflect on each students journey and progress and research βtheir obstaclesβ to check if there are more and better ways than what we currently know. I feel like as coaches sometimes the brain juice is running low and we feel dejected. So looking online for singing solutions/tutorials from other coaches/singers refreshes and energizes me (gives me back the energy). And I feel reminded on how I should approach somethingβ
1. Learning of new songs
Familiarising themselves with students' preferred songs especially when it comes to songs in other languages (Mandarin, Japanese, Tamil, Spanish, French, KPOP, Malay, etc.)
Listening to the student's songs selection, ensuring that they are confident in teaching the songs to each student
2. Reflection after lessons
Reflection on the previous lesson to prepare for the next lesson
Researching different vocal techniques to best suit to each student
General reflecting file by file, on how to make learning more mindful for studentsβ and also preparing new specific exercises to break their old habits.
3. Encouraging the use of our very own mobile application, βBeyondclassβ
βBeyondclassβ is very useful to keep track of studentsβ progress and also to encourage students to sing outside of lesson hours as well (Important for improvement!)
4. Last but not least, training themselves!
Weekly coach discussions where they get to share different methods of teaching
Training more advanced songs & vocal exercises that they can impart to students
Constantly studying if there are more and better ways to teach!
βSometimes, I get ahead of myself, input too much information in them during lessons then realise that even I take time to internalise & apply certain techniques, as should they. So, instead of analysing the details, for me, I take time to re-sing the studentβs songs and continue to explore in my perspective to understand them & what they go through better. Discussions with another coach can be useful too.β
