TVS Vocal Exercise Guide [13-22] Pitch Intervals & Minor Scale
Exercise 13. Major Scale Intervals
Version 1: Sing it in light ‘ooh’ to glide through low and high notes. Makes sure that you have warmed up your voice before this exercise.
Version 2: Sing it while feeling the elongation of relaxed vowels (we, yay, I, oh, you)
Exercise 14. Pitch Interval (Exercise One)
Version 1: Practice with open vowel, while focusing on the accuracy of each note.
Version 2: Practice it by sliding up and down between the notes (to sing in legato style)
Exercise 15. Pitch Interval (Exercise Two)
Version 1: Sing the melody with an open vowel while maintaining the consistent breath and tone throughout 2-4 bars.
Version 2: Add simple riff or expression while singing the melody.
Exercise 16. 8-Pitch Natural Minor Scale
Version 1: Sing the melody with open vowel, notice the difference of the note (Minor 3, 6, 7) compared to major scale.
Version 2: Sing the melody with various syllables or phrases. Here’s the example phrase “Feel the sound take flight, let it soar, soft then strong, with heart and grace.” Maintain the melody accuracy, and add the expression
Exercise 17. 8-Pitch Melodic Minor Scale
Same as above, but the notes are slightly different.
Exercise 18. Single Pitch Minor Scale
Version 1: Practice with an open vowel (sustaining 1 single note for long duration), creating gradual dynamic change
Version 2. Practice with staccato style, while applying various way of attacking the note.
Exercise 19. 2 - 3 Pitch Minor Scale
Version 1: Practice with ‘Wee-Ah’
Version 2: Practice while adding emphasis (accent) on certain notes
Exercise 20. 5-Pitch Minor Scale
Try to maintain the melody accuracy and voice tone consistency while moving up to higher notes.
Exercise 21. 5-Pitch Minor Scale Intervals
Exercise 22. 7th - 9th Pitch Minor Scale Intervals
Try the exercise with following syllables: Du / Be /Bim / Do / Bum / Shoo / Wap / Bop
