TVS News: Music In Our World

In our latest series ‘TVS News’, find out more about what’s up and current at TVS! In this episode, let us tell you more about our very own coaches, and how they are shaping the industry in their own unique ways!

Ever wondered about our local music scene and what part our very own coaches play in our industry today?

Today, we gain some insight on a well known singer, performer and coach, Harsha Channa. Known as one of Singapore’s first homegrown singers who specialises in Hindi, Bollywood & Punjabi Folk music, Harsha Channa is also one of our coaches at The Vocal Studio Singapore. With a positive spirit, passion for the stage and great interest in the growth of her students, Harsha aspires to continue doing everything she can to pursue her goals of helping others follow their singing dream whilst pursuing her own.

On that note, Harsha Channa had recently been a part of “Esplanade’s Indian Festival of Arts 2020” and in her words, “We got lucky because it was not “cancelled” due to Covid, instead it coincided with NAC’s (National Arts Council’s) attempt to pilot performances.”

The shows happening in late 2020 at The Esplanade were one of the first live shows permitted with live audiences of 50 allowed in every zone. “It felt amazing performing to a live audience and on stage after 9 month,.” she described.

What a great opportunity to have during such unprecedented times. If you are interested in taking a look at Harsha’s latest show, do take a look at the video below!

What a spectacular performance! How great is it to know that our coaches are always able to showcase their talents on our local platforms, even during unexpected times.

On top of our coach’s latest show, we also are aware of our local artist, Yung Raja who has also had the opportunity in December 2020 to be a part of an international platform, in Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2020. This event has had Indian audiences worldwide witnessing once in a lifetime performances by world-renowned artists like Steven Wilson, Flying Lotus and Steve Vai. But the festival programming has also made sure to consistently celebrate homegrown talent like Prateek Kuhad, Divine and Parikrama, to name a few.

In its 11th year of the annual event, they have now made an effort to adapt to the need of the hour and gone digital. With this, being able to include more international artists was a positive addition to the event as well. Take a look at the link below for more insight!

Another one of our well known coaches here at The Vocal Studio Singapore, specialising in Musical Theatre and the art of live stage shows, is Natalie Yeap. She is highly qualified, highly experienced and extremely warm towards the people around her. Be it the students she teaches or the performers she has alongside her on stage, Natalie never fails to express herself without a smile! The Musical Theatre scene in Singapore is truly privileged to have Natalie Yeap as one of the mere stunning performers, singers and coaches!

On that note, Natalie recently filmed a video for a women’s rights organization in Singapore entitled, “AWARE”. Every year, “AWARE” has a fundraising ball and will create a parody video of the misogynistic events that have occurred to Singapore women over the years. “This year is the first time the videos have been made public!” she says.

How exciting is that! Check the video out as embedded below:

Natalie was also a part of a Christmas Show held at The Esplanade Outdoor Theatre on Christmas Day 2020. What a joy to have such great talents spread the Christmas cheer on such an important day for many people around.

Last but not least, Natalie Yeap has been working tireless days and nights from 2020, in the midst of the global change that impacted many of our performer’s lives and will be launching an online game related to Singapore’s Musical Theatre scene in March 2021. We are looking forward to how much she has planned for the local musical theatre scene and hope to see her talent impact the rest of the world too!

Our next pick is well known coach, artist and performer, Bojana Fabel, as many of you know and love. With over 10 years of singing and teaching experience, having travelled across many parts of the world, Bojana continues to find ways to express her beliefs through her songs. She also ensures that each of her students are guided towards the right direction and grow immensely in their singing journeys.

On that note, on the 26th of January 2021, Bojana released her new single entitled “Stronger”.

Despite living in unprecedented times, this did not stop Bojana from her creative roots. With it being her first ever music video, starring her, Bojana shot this video in Singapore in mid 2020, when COVID was ongoing.

Spending countless numbers of hours shooting the video, the song had a personal meaning to Bojana and here is what she says.

“The song ‘Stronger’ was written about 3 years ago when I was going through a very transformative and personally troublesome time but In the midst of all of it, I saw a spark of light in the storm, I felt intuitively that the song ‘Stronger’ had to be changed completely so that instead of portraying a sad and unpromising reality, in fact the song portrayed a happy, joyful and strong sense of reality and of one’s self.”

How beautiful that we get to be a part of Bojana’s journey through one of her latest singles. You can find out more about her story behind the song in the link below.

Enjoy!
